Echoes of Tumult brings together works of witnessing and processing violence, systemic failure, and vulnerability, by artists who are in varying proximity to the realities they are examining. Through approaches ranging from speculative and documentary, to sensorial, theatrical, and personal, their works resonate with and against current realities at the nexus of ecological crisis, geopolitics, and war. They deliberately bring us into contact with painful and complex situations, oscillating between conflict and resistance, and at times unexpectedly echoing with solidarity and hope.
Refracting into an affective field of resonances and disturbances, the works span neighboring venues Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien and daadgalerie, both important artistic focal points in Berlin.
The exhibition is the result of collaboration between three organisations – CTM Festival, the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, and iii – instrument inventors initiative – who are active in exploring the intersection of sound and art with socio-political contexts, technologies, and histories. With Echoes of Tumult, these organisations come together to feature works by artists within their networks, some of which have been supported through their residencies and programmes.
Discourse Programme
The CTM 2026 Discourse programme opens with two days exploring some of the exhibition's themes. Day one approaches eco violence and embodied artistic practice with a keynote by Svitlana Matviyenko, artist presentations by Ioana Vreme Moser and Signe Lidén, and a discussion on how artists work at the intersection of sound and ecology with alen hast, Nursalim Yadi Anugerah, Ioana Vreme Moser, and Mariana Berezovska.
On the second day, sound and vibration recur as key epistemic tools to show how infrastructures and landscapes become recording surfaces for violence, while also offering possibilities for resistance and counter-memory. The day features a lecture-performance by Gascia Ouzounian, an artist talk with Nikita Kadan and Alona Karavai, and a screening by the Center for Spatial Technologies.
