We live in a present shaped by predefined scripts, hungry algorithms, and extractivist protocols that erode our capacity to process, act, and think. But nobody lives in outcomes alone. We live inside the doing, and what we repeatedly do shapes what we become – the process is the message.

In Listening

After more than a decade, the CTM Radio Lab will shift into a new format titled »In Listening.« This call aims to zero in on sound-focused experiences, where active listening – as a form of individual or relational process – should inform the proposals. The call is open to artists worldwide and should engage with the CTM 2027 theme, Process….ing. Apply by 6 September 2026.

Coming late August, our call for the Resynthesising the Traditional artistic lab invites artists worldwide who engage critically and in-depth with sonic traditions and transform them into contemporary contexts.

Sound in the Garden

Berlin's Neue Nationalgalerie once again teams up with CTM Festival to present the open-air concert series Sound In The Garden. Four nights of live concerts feature Gigi Masin, Valentina Magaletti & Upsammy, Dopplerefekt, Space Afrika, Hildur Guðnadóttir & Sam Slater, Slauson Malone, and legendary Kosmische Musik architect Michael Rother. The last day is dedicated to sound installations created in honor of Fujiko Nakaya, who is presenting a site-specific fog sculpture in the garden of the Neue Nationalgalerie.

The artist and researcher Jorge Juan B. Wieneke V dives into the histories, communities, aesthetics, technologies, and material conditions of budots. Spending time with some of the genre’s originators while also reaching out to artists adopting and carrying the sound further worldwide, a fascinating conversation emerges, where questions of origin, ownership, authenticity, visibility, and access are treated as ongoing asymmetries that require dialogue, engagement, curiosity, responsibility, and community.

The Romanian sound artist Ioana Vreme Moser crafts handmade electronic processes to explore  materialities of sound. Ahead of showing her longtime research project »Arsenic Ballerinas« at the Echoes of Tumult exhibition, Vreme Moser spoke with the artist and researcher Lottie Sebes about the entwined lineages of cosmetics with sonic circuitry, toxicity, radio and wartime histories, and different shapes of femininity.

»Oto Aulos« by Marcin Pietruszewski and aulos performer Lukas de Clerck is a new work that centres on composing for the ancient aulos instrument and computer. Ahead of the work's premiere at CTM 2026, Pietruszewski shares more insights into his work with de Clerck and the fascinating world of the aulos – an instrument already contested in ancient times and for which we have no sonic record – while also raising questions on the limits of human listening and what it might mean when machine systems hear what their designers cannot predict.

CTM Editions

The first release on CTM Editions explores multiple ways of reworking archived materials via re-interpreting scores, concepts, compositional methodologies, and personal/ historical narratives. Chronotopia Echoes / Αντηχήσεις features works engaging with KSYME – the Contemporary Music Research Center in Athens by Alyssa Moxley, Gaspar Cohen, Giulia Vismara, Max Eilbacher, Savvas Metaxas, and Sofia Eleni Xezonaki.
