Somerset House Studios, Goethe-Institut London and CTM Festival partner on a residency supporting a Germany-based artist working with music and sound.

Resynthesising the Traditional

This initiative explores how musicians and sound artists can critically engage with (past) traditions and heritage while confront conservative views of culture as something frozen. Commissioned works, artistic labs, talks, research and other formats are featured at CTM’s yearly festival as well as connecting with partners worldwide.

Tthe North European Resonance and Dissonance Society – is an alliance of organisations working with experimental and innovative music in the Nordic and Baltic regions with additional nodes outside the region

tekhnē is a collaborative project in which six European organisations aim to explore the emancipatory potential of technology in music and sound art.

Artist Mobility and Residency Platform, 2022 – 2025

SHAPE+

The second stage of the SHAPE platform – Sound Heterogeneous Art and Performance in Europe – SHAPE+ expanded the focus of supporting Europe-based experimental artists through touring opportunities through an additional focus on residencies.

Transe Paris x CTM

Special collaborations between emerging independent clothing and accessory label Transe Paris and CTM Festival.

Yearly commissions exploring the hybrid possibilities of live performance and radio are supported by Deutschlandfunk Kultur and CTM Festival, together with ORF Austrian Broadcasting Service, Goethe-Institut, and The Wire magazine.

Vorspiel

Vorspiel is an initiative supported by transmediale and CTM Festival that aims to showcase the richness and diversity of Berlin's independent project spaces and artist initiatives.

Collaborative Artistic Lab, 2013–2024

MusicMakers Hacklab

The MusicMakers Hacklab was a weeklong, open collaborative laboratory that ran annually as part of CTM Festival created, co-curated and hosted by artist, technologist, and CDM editor-in-chief Peter Kirn.

Afropollination

Artistic collaboration between Africa and Germany, with a focus on recontextualising music through its dance element.

Jump Cut

Nyege Nyege x CTM

Funded by Musicboard Berlin, this initiative supported Berlin-based musicians with a residency at Nyege Nyege studios in Kampala, Uganda.

ENCAC

ENCAC – European Network for Contemporary Audiovisual Creation, was a transnational research project aimed at fostering the cooperation between artists and scientists under the principles of interdisciplinarity, European intercultural exchange and the development of new audiences.

SoCCoS

SoCCoS: Sound of Culture – Culture of Sound was engaging with exploratory music, sound art and culture while providing residency opportunities via exchange of artists, cultural workers and theorists.

Collaborative Festival, 2015

CTM Siberia

In collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Novosibirsk and local partners, a multi-day festival programme in Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk titled CTM Siberia aimed to foster exchange between local artists that contribute to the common Siberian musical horizon, with artists based in Berlin and Germany.
