Musikfonds’ Artificial Intelligence Scholarship Programme STIP-5 supports a yearly group of composers and sound artists selected by open call, to develop and strengthen artistic reflections on the far-reaching social consequences of rapidly-spreading AI technologies. Key to the programme is supporting artists in examining opportunities and risks of AI-based composition over an extended period of time.
An artist centred programme, STIP-5 is interested in the critical, unconventional, and anarchic sides of AI, which also have been an ongoing focus of CTM under the Stranger AI thematic strand.
As the use of AI in creative spaces continues to evolve at breathless speed, we find ourselves constantly processing ways of engaging with the technology and its massive implications. Crucial questions arise, such as: What kind of AI would we in the independent arts community wish to create with? During the course of the day, the fellows and invited experts will come together to examine a range of topics, including hybrid compositional processes; the design of new musical instruments and algorithmic agents for musical co-improvisation; non-human group intelligence and complex swarm behaviours; extraction of human labour and natural resources, power, and biases in AI systems; exploring and processing archives through artificial intelligence; and much more.
Experts, researchers, scientific organisations, and other collaborators that have supported the fellows will join the programme.
