1In collaboration with the Korkut Trienale, Bilawa Respati, Karina Utomo and Şüräle present a new iteration of their work »The Dream Has Still Not Whispered«, exploring the concept of arwah/äruax, an ancestral spirit that appears in both Turkic and Indonesian cultures. Through a sound offering, the three engage within a scaffold of cyclical rhythms, haunting timbres and granular aural perception, creating soundscapes where ancestral mythologies are inseparable from the technological present and where the boundaries of tradition are collectively tested and transformed. The work’s title refers to a Javanese tradition in which spiritual knowledge is often transmitted through whispering.
Dis Fig has developed her voice as a volatile instrument capable of carrying tenderness, dread and straight-up violence within the same performance. Her presence and process spit on easy methods and classifications. Returning to our stages, she’s presenting What To Make Of These Mortal Hands, her second full-length solo album, together with Fitnesss. A confrontation of the terrible capacities of human existence, the hands that nurture, and those which consign lives to ruin. Passages possessing the vulnerability of confessions flutter in their enveloping intimacies against tensions and abrupt violences, the extraordinarily expressive force of Chen’s voice rising above all.
