KINDASA
Artistic Lab
Nurah Farahat is an Egyptian AV artist, game developer and VJ based in Bremen, Germany, whose work grew out of Cairo’s underground music scene. Her project KINDASA takes its starting point from an unexpected and frankly delightful piece of engineering history: the 12th-century musical automata of Ismail al-Jazari, whose water-powered robotic band used wooden pegs and levers to control percussion and movement. Farahat translates that principle into a 45-minute live audiovisual performance, building a system in which rhythms, animated figures, gestures, weather and physical forces evolve according to programmed rules. She received an Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica 2025 in Digital Musics and Sound Art.
