Led by Gerriet Krishna Sharma (spæs lab), and Jan and Enyang Urbiks (Urbiks Music), the workshops in this series move from sonic architectures and multichannel lineages to hands‑on composing in Ambisonics, translation Ambisonics to Atmos, and scaling studio work to d&b Soundscape for live performance. Participants will leave with substantial insights into vocabulary, workflows, and venue‑ready procedures.
We offer four masterclass places at a reduced rate of 40 € for those with lower incomes – first-come-first-served.
Programme Overview
Day 1: Sonic Architectures and Lineages
Architecture as instrument. Spatial dramaturgy. From diffusion to object‑based systems. Curated listening to map aesthetics to affordances.\
Day 2: Practice
Composing in Ambisonics. Interoperability across Ambisonics, Atmos, and object‑based pipelines. Optional module on mastering, deliverables, and archiving for release‑ready assets.
Day 3: Studio → Venue
System design and fine‑tuning on d&b Soundscape. Alignment, show control, and rehearsal workflows that preserve intent in the room.
Learning outcomes
- Vocabulary for spatial perception and dramaturgy
- Transferable methods for Ambisonics composition and cross‑format translation
- Venue‑ready sessions, checklists, and documentation
- Production and mixing in Dolby Atmos as a core competency
Requirements
Laptop, DAW, headphones. Optional stems/session welcome. Participants should have basic DAW proficiency and basic production / mixing experience; prior spatial-audio experience is helpful but not required.
About the Hosts
Urbiks Music is a Berlin-based studio for stereo, spatial and dimensional sound production. From recording to final mastering, the studio supports artists in sculpting sonic architectures that move beyond format – shaping space as part of composition itself.
spæs lab is a Berlin-based collective that explores how sound shapes spaces and influences human experience. spæs lab collaborates with artists, designers, researchers, and engineers from diverse fields to explore innovative approaches to thinking about and working with sound as space.
Presented by Urbiks Music, spæs lab, and CTM Festival. Supported by d&b audiotechnik and d&b Soundscape.
