In collaboration with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, this world premiere collaboration asks: What can a voice carry?

Sainkho Namtchylak can hold several tones at once, moving between centuries-old Tuvan overtone and throat singing vocal traditions and free improvisation. AKA Stas Shärifullá, HMOT explores the musical inheritance of his Bashqort ancestry through improvisation and experimental listening. In collaboration with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, this world premiere collaboration is part of the ever-evolving series Cantadoras. Voice is wielded as embodied instrument, musical structures developed through reciprocal attention where each gesture influences the direction of what follows.

Assembling outstanding women artists who challenge vocal boundaries by positioning Ukrainian polyphony, Persian traditions, and Ethiopian-Swedish artistry alongside Karnataka music, spiritual practices and political friction converge as a visionary vessel for collective healing and deep memory. It invites reflection on the processes through which traditions endure and evolve. Cultural knowledge is transmitted through repeated acts of listening, imitation, interpretation and renewal, each generation inheriting a body of practice that it must make its own: tradition as an open system sustained through its capacity for adaptation and renewed participation.

A collaboration between Deutsche Oper Berlin and CTM Festival.
