Composer and sound artist Walter Sallinen is in a constant search for the affected surplus and sublimity in contemporary sonorities. His artistic work spans from spatial and installative sound rituals to graphically notated performances and acousmatic compositions. Since 2017, Sallinen has worked closely with dramaturg and writer Klaus Maunuksela, delving into an artistic aesthetic that seamlessly integrates text, sound, and multimedia. Sallinen’s earlier work at Monom, the underwater lamento »From A Great High« was premiered in 2022 as part of transmediale & CTM Festival's Vorspiel programme. The piece is presented as a world premiere.
Before, the part »Fire« of the multi-piece composition »The Elements: Aether, Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind« will be presented, likewise as a Berlin premiere. Created and spatialized by a group of artists under the MONOM umbrella, the compositions features contributions from William Russell, Shehryar Ahmad, Alessandra Denegri, Casimir Geelhoed, Louis McGuire, Jacob Kristin, Shaw Cain Hawkins, Temple Haze, Walter Nied, Alisa Reimer, Soneiro, Fernando Derks, Andy Aquarius, and Romain Azzaro. It conveys humanity's relationship with the four elements, including historic, philosophical, metaphysical, and societal entanglements.
