Working primarily with the Serge Modular synthesizer, the SHAPE+-supported Ankersmit blurs the boundaries between raw electronic intensity and intricate sonic precision. His compositions are immersive experiences designed to engage the body and the space they're played in as much as the ears, leveraging the physical properties of sound—including infrasound and otoacoustic emissions, where the ears themselves become sound generators. His mastery lies in a deliberate and experimental misuse of technology, transforming blasé into sashay as he conjures environments that feel alive, unpredictable, and powerfully tactile.
Ankersmit's music is released on the PAN, Touch and Shelter Press labels, and he's worked closely with Phill Niblock, Kevin Drumm and Valerio Tricoli. His work has been presented at Reina Sofia, Museu Serralves, Hamburger Bahnhof, Stedelijk Museum, Tate Modern, MoMA PS1 and festivals throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas.
