How do various cultures and sub-cultural scenes perceive the manifold work produced in the field of sound art? Is it a field in which "work" and "practice" might be mapped along a linear continuum? Or is global sound art destined always to navigate a complex and constantly shifting amoebic mix of fixed and fluid components?

Marcus Boon teaches contemporary literature and cultural theory at York University in Toronto. He is the author of The Road of Excess: A History of Writers on Drugs (Harvard UP, 2002), In Praise of Copying (Harvard UP, 2010), and co-author with Timothy Morton and Eric Cazdyn of Nothing: Three Inquiries in Buddhism (U. Chicago, Forthcoming).
Mazen Kerbaj is a Lebanese writer, illustrator and musician who has helped break new ground in Beirut's free improvisation and experimental music scenes.
Marcus Gammel is from Bremen, Germany. He studied musicology, German literature and philosophy at Humboldt University, Université Paris IV and New York University. He has worked as a music journalist, dramaturge, and radio curator for institutions such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Reclam Verlag, and Deutschlandfunk.
Antye Greie-Ripatti, i.e. AGF or poemproducer, has produced a formidable amount of output stretching across exhibitions, soundtracks, mixes, performances, and releases. Born in East Germany, she has been living and working in Hailuoto, Finland since 2008.
Alya Sebti is a curator specialised in contemporary art from North Africa. She is also Artistic Director of the Marrakech Biennale. After graduating from ESC Reims with a masters degree in management, she studied at the art history at Ecole du Louvre and earned a post-graduate degree in Business of Contemporary Art at IESA (Institut d’Etudes Supérieures des Arts).
Dr. Sebastian Klotz is professor of Transcultural Musicology and Historical Anthropology of Music at Humboldt University Berlin. He was researcher at the Istituto Storico Germanico in Rome, Bosch Fellow at the University of Chicago and held the chair of Systematic Musicology at Leipzig University.
