Stephen O'Malley

Stephen O’Malley’s music is concerned with sound as architecture, with the guitar wielded shamanically to shape vast fields of resonance, sewn with harmonic weight. His work as one-half of drone-doom legends Sunn O))) needs no introduction; as a solo composer, guitarist and visual artist he’s continually explored the space between sustained tone and physical environment. He approaches sound as a mutable presence capable of altering a room’s perception as well as the passage of time within it. His music traces immense yet finely articulated structures, drones and amplified harmonics atop orchestral writing and electronic textures wherein a single vibration contains an entire horizon.
