Pedro Oliveira

Brazilian researcher, sound artist and educator Pedro Oliveira’s work traverses the outer fringes of the technologically insidious and the artificially instigated, interrogating the use of accent-recognition software in German asylum procedures and investigating alternate histories of machine learning. His work »A Series of Gaps Rather Than a Presence« turned the databases and classificatory apparatuses of automated voice recognition into material for a counter-investigation, appropriating and distorting himself to reveal the violence concealed beneath their purported objectivity. Often beginning with found or recorded voices, he bends and reshapes them through analogue circuits, smudging humanity into new morphologies of sound.
