Luigi Monteanni

Luigi Monteanni’s work takes him deep into underground cultures of regional traditions and genres imported; from the trance performances of West Java to the locally transformed strains of metal that have emerged in Bandung. As co-founder of Artetetra, he’s spent more than a decade building a catalogue of gloriously strange cassette releases and artefacts devoted to what the label calls »fifth world music«, a world of digital folklore and invented exoticisms, musical forms arriving from several places at once. Wherever he delves, his underlying impulse remains the same: to listen closely to the peculiar ways music changes when it enters new communities and begins acquiring new life.
