Drawing from the cello’s ancient voice and extending it through electronics, Lucy Railton’s music moves with an uncommon sensitivity to timbre and duration, allowing tones to linger, fracture and reform as they discover their shape in the air. Across solo performances and collaborations spanning contemporary music, film, dance and visual art, she pursues the subtle thresholds where acoustic aurals vibrate in intangible states. There’s a meditative clarity within her compositions that remains attentive to the smallest transformations of texture and resonance, wherein a single tone may blossom into a field of shifting overtones, rains of silence watering it in a hushed symphony.
