Larissa Johnson

Larissa Johnson is a South African A/V artist, violinist and researcher whose work sets ancestral memory stirring through a resonant conjunction of indigenous musical instruments and the moving image. Her research into indigenous revivalism in South Africa attends to the circumstances under which cultural practices are denied legitimacy, probing the politics by which certain sounds acquire the prestige of art while others are relegated to the margins of historical consciousness.
