Hovering in a strange and fertile ground between composition and the inward worlds of the synthesiser, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith’s music carries an unusual duality of disciplined and instinctive, intricate and bluntly physical. Melodic fragments flare and disappear, intricate melodic ecologies unfurl into forms possessing their own weather. The synthesiser becomes a means of entering unfamiliar territories of perception. The language of Smith is simultaneously architectural and alive: tones gather into luminous structures, rhythms emerging from within.
