Artistic Lab

The body as a living archive.

Jasmine Tutum / Ntoutoume-Obame is a Jamaican-Gabonese transdisciplinary artist, born in Japan and based in Freiburg, Germany. Their practice explores experimental vocal practices and Afro-diasporic memory, working across performance and visual art through the lens of Black feminist hauntology. Shared listening practices and world-building create spaces to include the intensities of their Fang ancestors, the deeper pulses of Dub Poetry and the breath of Haiku. Their method involves using voice and movement to relocate the resonances of suppressed histories within Jamaican traditional folk music, unsettling archival structures, challenging boundaries, access and ownership. Their projects move between performative lectures, live immersive performance and video installation, engaging archives as sites of embodied knowledge.
