Gudrun Gut

Rising to prominence in 1980s Berlin as part of Mania D, Matador, Malaria!, and Einstürzende Neubauten, Gudrun Gut is an absolute subcultural icon. Through her label Monika Enterprise, her long-running Oceanclub radio show and club night with Thomas Fehlmann, and her ongoing collaborations, Gut has tirelessly supported female voices in the industry. Her background as a key figure in the city’s »geniale Dilletanten« still casts an aura of mechanised rhythms and a frozen emotional palette, but decades of improvisation and collaboration have deepened her sense of composition and melody beyond easy genre categorisation. Since the early 1990s she’s also composed for film. In 2023 she turned the camera on her own life with »GUT«, a three-part documentary series she co-directed and composed. In 2019 she released »Moment«, an album that spans her trajectory all the way from post-punk and no wave through techno and into indietronics.
