DJ Strawberry
Music
DJ Strawberry’s productions possess a kinetic intelligence, combining Chicago footwork velocity with Japanese minimalism, bolstered by a microscopic attention to repetition and rhythmic displacement. Beats fracture into elaborate polyrhythmic configurations within his compositions, samples emerging as fleeting recollections from obscured auditory pasts, and apparently austere sonic materials disclose unexpected depths of movement and emotional resonance. His relationship with footwork is particularly inventive, treating those frenetic tempos and densely articulated percussion as instruments for compositional inquiry, capable of accommodating spacious ambient passages and dub-inflected reverberations that might make sudden excursions into abstraction. Istanbul-born and Berlin-based, his work as a researcher complements his inquisitive sensibility, situating his compositions within a broader investigation.
