The project of Delia Beatriz, Debit excavates forgotten instruments and technological ruins to uncover the social forces which have shaped the sounds of the present. Volatile histories are dismantled and made to speak again through machines, regional musical lineages yanked taffylike into strange new configurations. The oiled pneumatics of club tropes and the fractured fire of Latin American dance are subjected to processes of reconstruction and mutation, their familiar contours displaced across dimensions. Haunted by the question of what survives when musical traditions pass through new machines, Beatriz’s works reveal the hidden continuities enmeshed within technology and dance.
