Born in Chile and based in Brazil, Valesuchi channels the complexity of the continent’s aural fabric into a deliciously oddball form of techno. Emerging in the early 2010s from the vibrant orbit of Latin American club collectives, her vision reflects the long continuum of the region’s dance music to illuminate its depth and diversity. Drawing from experimental electronics to the percussive traditions of her surroundings, there is as well a cinematic quality to her work, each composition sketching synthesis and rhythm evocative of the melancholy of cities brightened to tolerable levels with the warmth of community.
Issued via TraTraTrax, her latest release Futuro Cercano moves through patches of shadow and light, revealing and hiding minor-key melodies and kinetic percussion in vivid, dreamlike tension. Across its shifting tempos and fractured grooves, the concept of futurism as something deeply human is probed, a casting of her desire to connect the spiritual and the mechanical.
