Bass sorceress Stefanie Egedy works with low-frequency sound as a medium of perception and intimacy, making spatial inquiries through conceptual pieces, commissioned works, and electronic compositions. Sub-bass and good ol’ regular bass, infrasound and the pressure fields created by subwoofers form the elemental ground of her research, all shape a long-term body of work titled BODIES AND SUBWOOFERS and her new work Sonic Energetics. Within these environments, field recordings, analog and digital synthesis, and resonant space become materials for exploring how sound moves through tissue, revealing communication that happens beneath ordinary hearing.
Parallel lines of study include managing her co-founded label Coisas Que Matam, an ongoing investigation of light-sound relations with Camille Laurent, and international projects with Chris Salter, Alexis Blake, and Fernando Velázquez. Residencies and research programmes have supported the evolution of her work beginning with Red Bull Station in São Paulo and later the SHAPE+ platform. In 2024, her residency at Sound Art Lab in Struer, Denmark, culminated in the publication of her first research paper.
