Signe Lidén is an artist based in Oslo whose work explores relationships between place, sensing, and sound. Through field recording, instrument building, and conversations, she approaches place as a dynamic process shaped by geological, biological, and atmospheric forces, as well as social and economic relations. Her practice spans sound installations, video, and performance, alongside more documentary forms such as sound essays and archival projects.
Lidén has initiated long-term projects including Pavilion, Wetland Library, and the Academy of Rhythmorphology, founded in 2022 with Hilde Methi and Arjen Mulder. Her project The Tidal Sense combined installation, sound essay, and seminar during LIAF 2019 and has since taken multiple forms, including a BBC radio program and presentations such as Currents of Breath at Radialsysteme in Berlin. She collaborates with Espen Sommer Eide under the name Vertical Studies, developing site-sensitive outdoor performances presented within the Dark Ecology project in Nikel, Russia, as well as at Sonic Acts and Borealis. Other projects include The Cold Coast Archive (2010–12), shown internationally, and a series of recent outdoor works connected to Pavilion Wetland and Wetland Library. Lidén has held extended residencies at institutions including the University of Oxford and continues to present work at venues and festivals in Norway and internationally.
