A quiet resistance audibly emerges.

Nursalim Yadi Anugerah’s work is shaped by deep engagement with the cultural and ecological realities of Kalimantan, Borneo. A composer and multi-instrumentalist, his practice centers on sonic experimentation rooted in indigenous cosmologies, acoustic ecology and environmental activism. He listens closely to place, tracing how cultural and ecological systems entangle and resonate through sound; the resulting compositions feel grounded and porous, carrying the weight of memory and ongoing environmental struggle.

Known for an idiosyncratic approach to instrumentation, he frequently collaborates with indigenous musicians, working to preserve and recontextualize traditional music through new compositional forms. His long-term role as music director of the Balaan Tumaan Ensemble has positioned composition as both research and collective practice.
