NGHTCRWLR
Music
Over the past decade Kris Esfandiari has operated under different vessels, from the crushing riffs of King Woman to the rage of NGHTCRWLR, facets of a restless mind drawn toward extremes. Erupting with stainless steel force, her voice pushes through a wound of sound to bend the machinery of the club and the cacophony of the subterranean to her will. Designed as a distinct home for these noisy junglisms and ambient nightmares, the songs of NGHTCRWLR bring an HD sheen to DIY weirdness, referencing the long and twisty history of rave as well as her exposure to gospel and church music and the Bay Area underground.
Eye and ear are directed to attend attentively, with the costume design, video work, and photo shoots surrounding her work integrated early, and the music engineered for quality in playback and immersive setups. Out on YEAR0001, her new album Oz is filled with the skittery signifiers of drum-and-bass in her deep, dark atmospheres, theatrical flourishes and hardcore punk elements slamdancing with breakbeats and basslines, cut sharply where moments of sonic haze allow space to breathe raggedly.
