Resonance between body and memory.

Isuru Kumarasinghe is a self-taught musician and sound artist from Sri Lanka, currently a fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program. His practice spans electro-acoustic composition, improvisation, field recording, sound installation, and performance, grounded in an attentive listening practice that foregrounds perception, movement, and the relationship between sound and the body. Through building his own tools and instruments, he translates philosophies of listening into sonic and physical experience, while maintaining a critical stance toward dominant musical narratives that marginalise local practices in Sri Lanka and South Asia.

As a key figure in the first wave of experimental music and sound art in Sri Lanka, Kumarasinghe has played a formative role in shaping the local scene; he is a co-founder of the Musicmatters collective in Colombo, which organises concerts, festivals, collaborations, and teaching formats including the Musicmatters Festival, the only experimental music festival in the country.
