Where species and machines cohabit.

Interspecifics is a transdisciplinary research studio established in 2013 by Mexican artists Paloma López and Leslie García, working in the fields of contemporary art, transmedia experimentation, and sound-based inquiry. They integrate biology, AI, and DIY electronics within these frameworks to investigate expanded modes of communication, perception, and cognition that extend beyond human experience.

Sound lies at the center of their methodology, serving simultaneously as a medium and an investigative tool. Using custom-built instruments and open-source techniques they translate biosignals from microorganisms, plants, and atmospheric events into immersive sonic and audiovisual environments. Across installations, performances, online platforms, and AI-driven systems, their work underscores a sustained engagement with sonic materiality as a form of research.

Their projects have been presented at the Centre Pompidou, Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theater, Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève, Chronus Art Center, ZKM, HKW, Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín, and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Chile. In Mexico City, their work has been exhibited at the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo, Museo Tamayo, Museo de Arte Moderno, and Laboratorio Arte Alameda. They held the Edgar Varèse Guest Professorship at the Technical University of Berlin in 2022. Their distinctions include honorary mentions from the Prix Ars Electronica in 2021 and 2023 as well as a residency in 2022. They are currently Sound and Music fellows at the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program (2025/26).
