Felix Deufel is a Leipzig-based sound artist, composer, and sound ecologist whose work investigates sound in space, spatial hearing, and the role of soundscapes in human and environmental contexts. His practice spans room installations, field research, compositions, performances, and collaborations that bring 3D audio into contact with ecosystems, often blending artistic research with ecological inquiry. Deufel’s fieldwork has taken him from high mountain ranges to rainforests and ice sheets, documenting and interpreting acoustic environments in ways that foreground both the beauty and precarity of natural soundscapes.
He's the founder of Not a Number Studio, a creative hub for 3D audio production and software development, and the initiator of the Centre for Immersive Media Art, Music, and Technology (ZiMMT) in Leipzig. Deufel has presented workshops, talks, and performances internationally, contributed to immersive installations and audiovisual projects, and plays a role in advancing spatial audio networks and tools such as Grapes 3D Audio Control.
