Emiddio Vasquez reknits personal memory with dense historical research to probe how mediated sensing influences subjectivity and power. The Cypriot-Dominican artist, composer and theorist traces how sound and computation are rooted in the textures of substance, resonance, and history. This ongoing inquiry folds into a wider process of »unlearning coloniality« where hyperlocal narratives and alternative histories collide with material fabulation.
Active for more than a decade in shaping the Cypriot underground, Vasquez has worked as organizer, DJ, and performer and in 2018, he founded the label Moneda, which explores how value circulates across social, material, and semiotic forms. As a synthesist and improviser, his sound work may be found across film, theatre, dancefloors, radio, and installation. Alongside Peter Eramian, he works as the Lower Levant Company (LLC), with whom they co-represented Cyprus at the 60th Venice Biennale.
