Cathy van Eck is a composer, sound artist, and artistic researcher whose practice centres on composing relationships between everyday objects, human performers, and sound. Working across performance, live electronics, and installation, she sets her own movements, actions, and gestures into dialogue with a broad and often unexpected sonic palette. In this way Van Eck creates carefully staged situations that foreground listening, attention, and physical interaction. Van Eck is a professor at the Academy of the Arts in Bern, Switzerland. Her book Between Air and Electricity – Microphones and Loudspeakers as Musical Instruments was published in 2017. She is also a member of iii – instrument inventors initiative.
