Musician, biologist, groundbreaking vocalist.

With a Ph.D. in cell physiology from the University of Oslo, Gammelsæter combines her scientific expertise with an experimental approach to music, pushing the boundaries of vocal expression through techniques like exclusive consonant articulation, syllabic repetition, retrograde vocalisation, and multilingual layering. Her work explores the thresholds of focus and intelligibility, creating a distinctive sonic experience that is both visceral and cerebral.

Gammelsæter’s music career began with a thunderclap when she joined Thorr's Hammer as a US exchange student at 17. Alongside Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson, she recorded Sannhet i Blodet and Dommedagsnatt in a whirlwind six weeks, before her return to Norway led to the band’s dissolution. In 2006, she co-founded Khlyst with James Plotkin and Tim Wyskida, releasing Chaos is My Name, an album also featuring her own painted portraits. A Fulbright Scholar, Runhild currently serves on the Board of Directors for Norwegian biotech company Regenics A.S., combining her scientific and artistic interests at the highest levels.
