Between sound, performance, and decoloniality.

Based between Amsterdam and Berlin, yamomo’s creative work includes directing and composing pieces such as »Echoing Europe«, »sonus – the sound within us«, and »Forces of Overtones«, which are part of the repertoire at Berlin’s Theater Ballhaus Naunynstraße. In addition to his artistic practice, he has curated projects like the Decolonial Frequencies Festival, amplifying voices and narratives that challenge colonial legacies in sound and performance.

Academically, yamomo serves as Assistant Professor of New Dramaturgies, Media Cultures, Artistic Research, and Decoloniality at the University of Amsterdam. He leads innovative research initiatives such as »Sonic Entanglements« and »Decolonizing Southeast Asian Sound Archives« (DeCoSEAS), exploring the intersections of sound, history, and cultural memory. As the host of the Sonic Entanglements Podcast, yamomo continues to expand conversations around sound studies and decolonial methodologies, bridging artistic and academic fields with a transformative approach.
