A composer of the experimental and conceptual, Bella Comsom channels the unheard—most notably electromagnetic fields—into audible phenomena through the design of specialized antennas. Each project is an intricate exploration of sound as a medium that bridges the tangible and the intangible across sound installations, A/V works, radio art, and live performance. Rooted in what she calls "capturing without catching," her method is an immersive process that translates imperceptible forces into sensory experiences. By wandering through natural environments and tracking electromagnetic waves with her body, she generates multisensory works that transform light into sound and vice versa. Her approach, enriched by a fractal way of thinking, connects the biological, historical, quantum, and cosmic, revealing a layered matrix of the imperceptible, throwing wide a conduit to the present moment, dissolving boundaries of space and time to create direct visceral encounters with the unseen.
An active force in fostering sound art communities, Comsom co-created meteoro, a collective amplifying the voices of women and non-binary folks in Rio de Janeiro’s sound arts scene. Her project SO(Ñ)AR, awarded by Ibermúsicas in 2022, united Latin American women in crafting compositions inspired by dreams, collective imagination and cross-cultural dialogue.
