Alexandre Saunier is a multidisciplinary artist and professor in the Audiovisual department at LUCA School of Arts, KU Leuven. His work bridges the realms of art and academia, driven by a fascination with media arts, cybernetics, and complex systems theory. With an innovative approach reflecting a blend of rigorous theoretical research and hands-on experimentation, he’s become a leading figure in the exploration of real-time, computationally driven art.
Saunier holds a PhD from Concordia University (2023), where he delved into the historical and contemporary uses of light as an artistic medium. His academic portfolio is hefty, encompassing mathematics and physics as well as sound design and engineering. As a fellow at ENSADLab, he furthered his research into behavioural robotics and interactive lighting. Since 2020, he’s collaborated with Marc-André Cossette as the artistic duo ALMA, producing live audiovisual performances that fuse music, motion capture, and AI techniques. Their work has been showcased at prestigious international venues such as Mutek Montreal, Ars Electronica, and Nuit Blanche Toronto, positioning Saunier as a key contributor to the evolving landscape of media art.
