We assume that every volunteer brings dedication, enthusiasm, and has sufficient availability. Basic knowledge of English is also an advantage. Otherwise, we do not expect any prior experience. Everyone contributes their own skills and experience.
You must be over 18 to volunteer.
You could be part of the exhibition set-up/dismantling team; the technical team that helps with tech set-up and/or audio or video recording; guest management that help direct and guide guests, assist with crowd management/flow, and distribute flyers at events; the hospitality team that helps with grocery shopping and basic backstage catering such as preparing sandwiches, tidying up, restocking beverages/food, etc.; the merchandise sales team; or the entrance and ticket scan team. You can indicate which types of tasks you are interested in in the application form.
We expect volunteers to be available for a minimum of three days during the festival. You can indicate your availability in the application form. Applicants with highest availability have better chances of being selected. The final shift plan will be sent to you shortly before the festival in January.
As soon as we have received and sorted all applications, we will send out more info to applicants. This will probably happen in late December.
You usually work in one venue/area. This has the advantage that you can gain as much experience as possible in this space. But depending on your availability you might also be assigned to different venues/areas.
Yes, there will be a welcome meeting and briefing where all remaining questions can be answered. The date will be confirmed in January. In addition we will send out a volunteer briefing which we advise you to read carefully.
We understand how much more fun you can have when you’re able to share the experience with friends. If you have been confirmed to work as a CTM volunteer we will try to respond to your wishes. Please understand that such requests do not always work out. You can swap shifts with other volunteers if you wish—but note that swaps must be done in communication with the volunteer coordinator, and be approved by them. Also keep in mind: volunteering at CTM is a great way to meet new people!
We understand that there might be urgent reasons to cancel on short notice. We request that you only cancel shifts with short notice in the case of serious emergencies. All other cancellations diminish your chance to participate as a volunteer again at the next festival edition.
Childcare, accommodation, parking, and transportation are your responsibility. All venues are easily accessible via public transportation. For more info check our Festival Info section.
If you wish to receive a reference, please contact us after the festival, we are happy to write a short statement for you.
Mia is your contact for all questions about volunteering.
