Her 2016 Hotflush debut UK Lonely showcased just what a dab hand Orlagh Dooley is in her subtle arts, bringing the ghosts of UK bass, breaks, and funky into a spirited new light. Further releases brought jungle and dub into the mix, all applied through a queer lens. Having grown up as one of the few queer persons in her native Derry, Dooley seeks to multiply LGBTQ+ voices in nightlife. Her London party series La Potion has brought in international queer talent ranging from Israel’s Roi Perez and Italy’s Elena Colombi to Syrian-born artist Fafi Abdel Nour, perpetuating a respectful party space for people to express themselves.
Fronting the label Céad, Dooley ensures a steady stream of leftfield electronic releases all occupying the realms of techno, bass and electro, yet uniquely difficult to pigeonhole – just like herself.
