Experimenting with just how hard he can go, Roniere Santos weaves elements familiar to Brazilian clubbers—techno, bass, dancehall, electro, and baile funk—and jacks them up into the red, crafting high-energy lurking bludgeoners that are at once familiar and electrifyingly jacked up. Ladling swathes of noise and jagged synths liberally, growling gut-punches evoking apocalypse favelas. A Rinse FM resident, his »Som Systema« show regularly unearths some of his city’s best, loudest, and strangest sounds, and his releases have been courted on the likes of Mamba, Omnidisc, Pac Recs, Nice and Deadly, and most recently the NY-based Tijolo Records, of which RHR is an integral part.
