How and when do we prepare for an emergency? What does it do to our bodies, and what kinds of responsibility does it evoke, practically and emotionally? Kyiv-based artist Anna Kravets, one of this year’s Radio Lab commission winners, leads a series of sessions that will feed into her ongoing work of documenting the feelings of wartime, and seeking for ways to translate them together with and through others.

This is the first of three separate Emergency Rehearsal sessions that will be held. For each session, Kravets invites interested participants to enter a basement space to exchange on matters of emotional emergency. Participants are asked to bring three to five objects that you would take with you if you were not able to return home again.

Each session will be recorded, with the possibility that some of the audio material will be used as part of Kravets’ commissioned Radio Lab work, which will be aired on Deutschlandfunk Kultur, and ORF Austrian Broadcasting Service.

Event Access

This event is not included in fesitval passes – participation is based on selection from an open call, which is now closed. The basement space is not wheelchair accessible – participants must take a flight of stairs down to the space.

Commissioned by the CTM Radio Lab, a project by Deutschlandfunk Kultur – Hörspiel / Klangkunst and CTM Festival in collaboration with Goethe-Institut, ORF musikprotokoll im steirischen herbst, Ö1 Kunstradio, and The Wire magazine.

The idea for »An Emotional Encyclopedia of War« was initiated together with semisilent.ro, ASCR, and Q-O2.
