Inspired by the ideas of Moholy Nagy and Margaret Mead to create new relations and connections between the body and our senses in cultural experiences, the collaborative installation »Collective Control 0« – or »cc0« – is a system of instruments designed for multisensory and collective creation. In this participatory installation users will be able to create musical patterns online and on site via various interactive instruments, registering collective compositions to create a web of sounds that resonate between the physical space at HAU2 and its digital home on participativeaudiolab.com.

»cc0« is the inaugural project of the Participative Audio Lab (PAL), a group aimed at developing open source tools to allow artists to create and distribute their own participative musical experiences without the need of coding skills. From conceptualisation to development and exhibition, the basis of this project has been focused on enabling open participation and collective decision-making. In this regard, the creative and development process of the installation as well as the granted resources were set open for public participation.

PAL was initiated thanks to support from the initiative »Prototyping Sonic Institutions« organised by Black Swan and CTM Festival 2022.  Employing decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO) infrastructure and thinking, Black Swan engaged with a number of resource-pledging silent stakeholders to explore new ways of supporting the creation of artistic works.
