Goethe-Institute in Exile

Event Series 26.1.–1.2.2023

Goethe-Institut in Exile is a project that aims to provide meeting places, safe spaces, and platforms for cultural workers who can no longer work in their home countries due to war. The initiative aims to maintain spaces for dissent, dialogue, and intercultural exchange for artists and intellectuals from countries where the Goethe-Institut and other international cultural institutions have had to close their doors due to war or censorship.

As of late January, the Goethe-Institut in Exile initiative will place a main focus on the cultural scene in Iran, reflecting the current situation of the country's local art and culture scene, and inviting the German-Iranian community into dialogue on the question of how artistic, literary, and performative positions can negotiate the current, but also past political crises in Iran.

The programme at ACUD proposes a range of formats, from a multi-day exhibition, a workshop, a poetry reading and listening session, concerts, and more. Several Ukrainian-themes events will also be featured, including the programme's final two presentations, which take place within CTM 2023.
