
Foremost a journalist and critic, Wei writes about club culture and experimental dance music scenes from around the world. Her words have appeared in The Guardian, Vogue US, Pitchfork, Mixmag, FACT, Highsnobiety, and Numéro Berlin, among others. In 2020, she served as a mentor for the Factory Berlin, Sónar+D, and Beats by Dr. Dre artist residency programme and was selected as a Shesaid.so and Native Instruments Alternative Power 100 Music List Honoree. In 2021, she was a member of the Clubcommission Berlin Tag der Klubkultur Board of Trustees.
Wei graduated with distinction from Barnard College of Columbia University, and was a 2017 Fulbright National Geographic Semi-finalist for her fellowship proposal on urban nightlife. In her illustrations, Whitney combines bold gestural brushwork and architectural perspectives, with a concentration on nightlife and the East Asian diaspora. Select works have been featured in Mixmag print and digital, VICE THUMP, and the New York Magazine blog Bedford and Bowery. Her work for the zine Club Etiquette is available for purchase at MoMA PS1's bookstore ARTBOOK.
Wei is currently based in Berlin.
