
A graduate of Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges, as well as Manhattan School of Music, Wheeler’s countless collaborations – ranging from DJ Logic, Laraaji, Matana Roberts, Vernon Reid, Greg Tate, and many more – and invitations to perform alongside artists like Bang On A Can, David Byrne, John Cale, Marc Ribot, and others, points to her versatility and wealth of experience both in the USA and in Europe.
Her musical explorations have included forays into techno, house, two-step, drum ‘n’ bass, breakbeat, soul, dancehall, dub, world music, ambient, free jazz, and improvisational forms. But her constantly evolving solo practice – blending improvised and looped vocals with instruments such as mbira, autoharp, and theremin and processing them with effects – boils down to blurring the line between the organic and the synthetic
