Sabine Sanio has taught the Sound Studies and Sonic Arts Masters programme at the Berlin University of the Arts since 2009. She also head's the departments theory focus and, since 2019, the DFG research project »Hearing the Other. On the Aesthetics of the Real in Experimental Music and Sound Art.«

Sanio studied German language and literature, and philosophy at Universities in Frankfurt and Berlin. She holds a Doctorate in German Studies with the thesis »Alternativen zur Werkästhetik: Cage und Heißenbüttel« (Saarbrücken, 1999) and a habilitation in Musicology. She has published numerous writing on current music and media aesthetics, among others: »1968 und die Avantgarde« (Sinzig, 2008); as editor: »Sound als Zeitmodell: Zeit als Klang denken« (Berlin, 2014); as co-editor: »Heroines of Sound. Feminismus und Gender in elektronischer Musik« (Hofheim, 2019).
