Duma

Formed in 2019, the duo comprises Martin Khanja (electronics, guitar) and Sam Karugu (vocals), who named the project after the Kikuyu word for »darkness.« Following an incendiary, highly-praised set at the Nyege Nyege festival, Duma brought their sonic hellscapes and convulsive screaming to European stages. They released their self-titled debut album in the summer of 2020: »Not everyone would think of Duma as a metal album, but these are extreme sonics, and to the extent that the listener can extract recognisable emotions from the wreckage, it certainly feels like guts-on-the-table music« (The Quietus).
