In Säule, Hong Kong electronic underground protagonists Absurd TRAX present a collaborative night with Berlin’s radically contemporary design collective Selam X, featuring sets from T0C1S, ava*, Nerve, FOTAN LAIKI, ASJ, Thegn ft. Dis Fig, Kelvin T, and Alexmalism.
Thegn is a non-identity. An entity by the name of Joy portrays the base emotions of the human experience in impassioned forms, namely: rage, anxiety, and sadness. Thegn's host body was born in Vancouver, Canada, and began making industrial and noise music in the early 2010s.
T0C1S stands for The Only Constant is Struggle. He is the founder of Hong Kong based label Absurd TRAX. As a DJ, T0C1S focuses in creating sonically dense sound by blending selections of genre-less music to create intimate and cathartic experiences narrated by an emotion driven ‘story-telling’ style of playing.
Alex Yiu, aka Alexmalism, is a sound artist, music producer, curator, and a researcher based in Hong Kong. He is currently a PhD candidate in the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong, where his research interests include the deconstructed club scene on social media, the Hong Kong underground music scene, and other related topics.
ava* is a producer, artist, and vocalist based in Berlin, Germany. Her debut record Juice was produced with Zach Tippitt, with ava* contributing vocals. Since then she has moved to sculpting music using field recordings and samples, creating environments that are loose and innocent yet haunting.
FOTAN LAIKI, aka Wong Laiki, was born and raised in Hong Kong. Full-time Fiji Wifey, part-time performer, rapper & DJ, Laiki debuted as a member of girls duo Cooking Bitchess and local party community Hui Lau Gang.
Based in Hong Kong but raised by the internet is Kelvin T, an electronic musician utilising music as a means of delivering impactful sonic experiences. He has been affiliated with Shanghai-based Genome 6.66 Mbp and Hong Kong’s Absurd TRAX since 2016.
Nerve is a Hong Kong based multidisciplinary artist whose practice mines the boundaries between contemporary music, sound art, multimedia theatre, and underground subcultures. With a background in classical composition and 90s rave culture, he explores extreme sound by mixing electroacoustic, beat, bass, fx, and rave samples into a new form of free improvisation performance.
American-born Chinese DJ and producer Dis Fig combines hi-tech, futuristic aesthetics and vocal-led, introspective soundscapes. Having moved from New York to Berlin to write music she has since become a lynchpin of a constantly evolving underground scene, hosting famed radio show Call Dibs on BCR with Hunni’d Jaws, and performing and DJing internationally. Her first album Purge was released on PTP in 2019.
Selam X is more a gaming clan than a soccer team. With a belief in collaboration and synergy, their creative habitat lies across music, art, fashion, lifestyle, and (real-time) performance. A mindset of growth is crucial to the Gen X and Z members.
Hailing from Hong Kong but now based in London is ASJ, who first started out DJing and producing in Taiwan. With a playful, open approach, ASJ’s music first found a home on Sonia Calico’s label, UnderU. Her debut LP, The Road to Become One, was later released via Hong Kong’s Absurd TRAX.
