The movement to (re)decentralise the web has largely taken over conversations about the internet and our relationship to it. There is a new world of webs evolving; new networks are forming and a whole world of distributed communication protocols are taking shape. Scuttlebutt and Dat – which enable wholly new ways of networking, connecting, and communicating – form key components of this conversation.
As the music industry wrestles with the platforms it inevitably relies on, perhaps it is worth looking towards new initiatives and ideas that offer an opportunity to reshape current practices. Zenna Fiscella will take attendees on a quick walk through these new projects, providing a glimpse of a (re)decentralised future, and how that may impact creativity.
Zenna has a background in autonomous activism with the Swedish Syndicalist Youth Union as well as a 7-year history working with the international network of digital fabrication labs, FabLabs. Her interest in technology was sparked at the anarchist culture center Utkanten in Malmö around 2008 where she found the hackerspace Forskningsavdelningen.
Based in Liverpool, Jon Davies is a producer under the alias Kepla, journalist, events organiser, and researcher. He has written about the relationship between politics, arts and music for Dazed, The Skinny and is currently a reviews contributer for The Wire.
