São Paulo trio Rakta have refined a language of tension. Honed of a gnarly blend of psyched-out post-punk and industrialized deathrock, their music coils inward before striking with controlled, hypnotic force. Maurício Takara’s drumming throbs with exposed wiring, Paula Rebellato’s synthwork smearing and shimmering in sheets of metallic frost as Carla Boregas’ voice hovers incantatory. Stripping back abrasion in recent years down to a lean, cold architecture, a vacuum that pulls the listener deeper into their stark monochromatrix. For this performance, they’ll be presenting their new album.
