Kantine am BerghainTickets 25 €Ian Lynch and George Brennan drag traditional Irish music into the most severe of voidic territories. Over the course of their albums ...And Take The Black Worm With Me and its sophomore follow-up CRONE, released through AD93, layers of distorted pipe drones and jagged black metal textures are pressed with heavily processed field recordings, stripping folk elements down to fundamental heavy frequencies.
A professional folklorist as well as a member of Dublin folk group Lankum, Lynch's academic background draws thematic materials straight from the bloody texts of the Ulster Cycle, utilizing obscure incantations and literary fragments to channel and invoke entities like the Mórrígan, the triple-goddess tied to sovereignity, war and death. When performed live the duo deliberately deconstructs remaining remnants of traditional song structures entirely, focusing on sustained pitch manipulation and massive walls of resonance that alter the physical perception of the room and leave the mind feeling entirely untethered.
A support act will be announced soon.
