Dream logic and hallucinatory hearing.

Sound for Thomas Ankersmit is something to be inhabited. Based in Berlin, his immersive sonic environments are collision courses for electricity, space, and the body. His work thrives on the pull between microscopic sonic precision and raw, physical vibration, frequencies sinking below hearing or rising inside the head itself, producing infrasound tremors and otoacoustic illusions that turn the listener’s body into part of the instrument.

For over two decades, Ankersmit has devoted himself to the Serge Modular synthesizer, transforming its circuitry into a field of psychoacoustic exploration. His performances and releases on labels such as PAN, Touch, and Shelter Press chart a singular path through the overlapping histories of electroacoustic composition, improvisation, and sound art. What emerges are charged spaces where perception and material blur.

The sound of ABOPF is like a lucid dream, blurred beats, memories, and imagined spaces smearing into one continuous flow. Their work drifts between bass music, ambient drift, and fractured hip-hop, yet never settles into a fixed form. Each piece feels like consciousness rendered in vibration: unstable, sensual and alive.

Since the release of Cognosco in 2023, ABOPF has expanded this sonic world through collaborations with dancers, visual artists, and exhibition projects, building bridges between club ecstasy and contemplative art space. Rhythm is treated as a language of transformation, one that reshapes both the air and the listener’s sense of time.
